Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished (Ecclesiates 4:13).

Many today confuse wealth and authority with wisdom and success. Solomon is the only man, save Jesus the Christ, to ever truly have wealth, authority, wisdom, and success. Of course, Solomon was not perfect (1 Kings 11:4ff), and that is why he wrote his confession and admonition called Ecclesiastes. This letter is filled with many of Solomon’s “I already tried it and it does not work” moments. Solomon was trying to help people to have “hind-sight” without experiencing the pains of failure themselves (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). How many people long for power and riches, but lack the discipline to handle such blessings. Solomon noted that when all is said and done, a poor child who has a good head on his shoulders is much better off than an old king who refuses to admit he is wrong. Whom will you choose to emulate in your life today?
