A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn (Proverbs 12:2).

How would you like to make the Lord happy? This verse tells us how. The Lord is happy with a good person (Proverbs 12:2). This is contrasted with the “man of wicked devises,” or evil person.

The context describes both the good person and the evil. The good person is wise and is a soul-winner (Proverbs 11:30). His example is such that people are drawn to the Lord and pointed towards the tree of life (Matthew 5:13-16). He willingly listens to correction and godly counsel (Proverbs 12:1). Contrary-wise, the evil man will not hear godly counsel and formulates wicked plans. He drives people away from God and righteousness. God will condemn him.

It is easy to see which we should earnestly strive to be (Proverbs 11:31, 12:3).
