Daily Lift – March 23rd, 2018

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name (Isaiah 62:2).

Each of us delights in having our name called
by some distinguished person. The mere
fact that someone of notoriety remembers us
causes us to feel important to a degree. This
passage reveals that God Himself would call
His people by a “name.” However, it would
not be just a “name,” but a “new name” (cf
Isaiah 65:15).

The culmination of these matters is found in
Acts 11:26, wherein is recorded “the disciples
were called Christians first in Antioch.” James
speaks of it as a “worthy name” (James 2:7).
New Testament Christians should delight in
the fact that the most distinguished of all
personalities has called us by name.
