Sustains the Soul
At the Eighth of Deuteronomy, Jehovah required Israel to observe and do all that He commanded them that they might live, warning them that they would surely perish if they did not. God also reminded them that He had fed them with manna in the wilderness that they might know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The Savior remembered these words at the Fourth of Matthew, and used them to overcome Satan’s temptation to make bread of stones. Man is a physical being sustained by physical food, but he is also a spiritual being that must be sustained by the Word of God. Just as surely as bread sustains the body, it is the Word that sustains the soul.
