Gained a Brother

At the Fourteenth of Mark’s Gospel, the Savior addressed Jehovah as “Abba, Father.” The address is actually somewhat redundant, for “Abba” is the Aramaic form of the Hebrew word for “Father.” It is also a name that only the children of a household patriarch would use to address him. It would have been considered improper for anyone to address him as “Abba” who was not, in fact, his child. No one had more right than Christ to address God as “Abba.” However, Paul told the churches of Rome and Galatia of the right granted to God’s spiritual children to call Him “Abba.” At the Eighth of Romans, we are told that it is by the Spirit of adoption that we cry “Abba, Father.” At the Fourth Galatians, Paul wrote that God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying “Abba, Father.” For such a privilege to be granted, redeemed ones are not only received of a Father, but have also gained a Brother.
