The religious world has perceived baptism in numerous ways. While some have deemed baptism as an expression of avowed fidelity to God, others have considered baptism to be an outward sign of the bestowal of Divine grace. Still others have practiced baptism as an essential initiation into a religious groups or organization. Regardless of what the most popular interpretation of baptism may be, the Scriptures teach it to be absolutely essential to redemption. The book of Acts records ten examples of those who were undergoing the process of conversion to New Testament Christianity. Five of those examples include faith, two include repentance, and two include expressed or implied confession of faith. All ten include the hearing of the Gospel, and all ten include baptism. As Paul wrote, “If we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”
