Not the World
The Third of Colossians lists twelve offenses which must not characterize those of heavenly ambition. The third on the list is inordinate affection. Those guilty of it have an affection for someone or something that is improper, inappropriate, and unwarranted. First John Two tells us that there is nothing in the carnal world that is worthy of such desire and, if we fully understood of what those things consisted, we would likely not want them anyway. All that is in the world, John wrote, is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. None are of the Father, and they will pass away with those that have loved them. Those performing the will of God, however, abide eternally, for they loved the Father, not the world.
