The great missionary Apostle knew that his death was imminent (2 Timothy 4:6). His greatest concern was for Timothy, his beloved son in the faith (2 Timothy 1:2). He sought to prepare him through the admonitions contained in this passage.
“But continue thou…” The key word is “continue.” Do not give up, never quit!
“…in the things which thou hast learned… knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” Timothy had learned the importance of godly living, steadfastness and endurance, even in the face of opposition (2 Timothy 3:10-12,15).
“…and hast been assured of…” Walk in the full assurance of faith (2 Timothy 1:12).
These exhortations from Paul to his young protégé provide the formula for success for any Christian who is willing to apply them.
