They Got Their Way
Because of their faithlessness, God sentenced the Israelites at the Fourteenth of Numbers to wander forty years in the wilderness until their carcasses fell and were wasted there. Of all those twenty years of age and upward at the time, Joshua and Caleb were the only two exempt from the Divinely given sentence of doom. Because Israel as it was is a type of the Church as it is, there is given by these facts a significantly greater appreciation for the Savior’s remarks concerning the narrow way which leads unto life. At the Seventh of Matthew, He cautioned us that only a few will find it. The Israelites’ transgressions included failure to believe God’s ability to give them the land of promise. By not believing they would inherit it, they got their way.
