Opened Before Him

The Eighteenth of First Kings records Elijah’s challenge to the prophets of Baal to summon their idol to consume a sacrifice by fire. When they were unsurprisingly unsuccessful, Elijah mocked them by asserting that Baal must be sleeping. It is neither accident nor coincidence that David had written at Psalm One Hundred Twenty-One that God neither slumbered nor slept. At the Eighth of Matthew, the physical person of the Savior slept as the sea threatened to overwhelm the ship of His disciples; yet, we can be most certain that His Spirit was awake and alert to the present needs of His own. The Fourth of Hebrews assures that not a thing and not a person is without His notice, for all is uncovered and opened before Him.
