Abhor It
Because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, all would be under the penalty of spiritual death were it not for the gift of God, which is eternal life. Those washed in the blood of Christ by obedience to the Gospel have become heirs of life, though even the willing spirit shall err due to the weakness of the flesh. First John One assures the penitent Christian that the Lord is faithful and just to forgive the sins we confess and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Those words of comfort are not given as a license to sin, but as an admonition not to do so. The fact that sin must be forgiven at all indicates its offensive nature as God sees it, and the fact that it requires the advocacy of the Son of God Himself to atone for it should motivate us to abhor it.
