Walk in His Ways

It was for seventeen years that Jehoahaz reigned over Israel’s northern kingdom. As the eleventh monarch following the division from the southern kingdom, Jehoahaz did evil in the sight of the Lord and followed after the sins of Jeroboam. Not surprisingly, God did as He had often done before and, in His wrath, delivered the kingdom into the hands of Hazael, King of Syria, and his successor, Ben-Hadad. Though Jehoahaz was primarily responsible for the Syrian oppression under which his people found themselves, God hearkened unto him when the king besought the Lord and gave Israel a savior so that they came out from under the hand of the Syrians. Unfortunately, Israel forsook not the sins for which they had suffered the oppression to begin with. How tragic it is when wicked men seek God’s deliverance but seek not to walk in His ways.
