Who Dwells in His Heart

One of the grandest and most admired of all characters of the Old Testament is David. We remember him for the slaying of the Philistine giant Goliath, and for ascending to the throne of Israel after the death of Saul. His father is known as “Jesse the Bethlehemite” for the family’s residence in Bethlehem. However, the city itself was known as “The City of David” because of his origins there. Yet, later, when David, as King, would take Jerusalem for his capitol, that also would become known as “The City of David.” What constituted the city of David was where David dwelt. Similarly, some may think of themselves as Christians, though Christ is not made welcome to dwell in their hearts. It is not what one calls himself, but Who dwells in his heart, that makes him a Christian.
