The People Perish

First Samuel Three records a period of time when God had made few new revelations. For this reason, the King James Translation describes the Word of the Lord as having been precious in those days, for there was no open vision. At the Second of Joel, prophecy was given of a time when old men would be dreaming dreams and young men seeing visions. On the day of Pentecost at Acts Two Peter declared that prophecy to have been fulfilled when the Holy Ghost provided utterance of Divine truth to the apostles. Yet again, more than eight hundred years prior this, the Eighth of Amos foretells a spiritual famine for want of hearing the Word of God. It once was not uncommon for Jehovah to communicate His will by vision, particularly in the days of the prophets of old. History has shown us the dearth experienced by the souls of men when not guided from on high. As Solomon wrote at the Twenty-Ninth of Proverbs, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
