Favor of the Lord

It is at the Second of Genesis that the Creator observed that Adam should not be alone and remedied Adam’s incompleteness by bringing unto him a woman. Being literally the other portion of who a man is, she becomes the fulfillment of his otherwise inadequacies. So was Abigail to her husband Nabal, the latter of which rudely turned away ten of David’s men who came seeking provisions. David purposed to answer Nabal’s churlish evil with a four hundred man attack but was stayed by Abigail’s kind and generous intercession. When Nabal learned of the fate from which his prudent wife had saved him, he suffered a heart attack and died ten days later. Abigail went on to become one of David’s wives. A beautiful woman of good understanding, she was willing even to wash the feet of her new husband’s servants. David’s son Solomon would later observe, “He that findeth a wife findeth a good thing and obtaineth favor of the Lord.”
