The World or Christ
At the Sixteenth of Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus told His disciples that they must take up a cross of responsibility and self-denial in order to follow Him. The Savior asked nothing of them that He was not willing to do Himself. Not only had He given up glory at the right hand of God in order to come to Earth, but soon He would suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the law before being crucified for the sins of the world. The Savior warned of the loss of a man’s soul in the process of trying to gain the world, a feat that has never been accomplished. However, such a one would be willing to forfeit all he had and more for an opportunity to regain the soul he lost. Ultimately, all will be judged based upon whether they followed after the world or Christ.
