Daily Lift – April 24, 2016

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not (Isaiah 53:3).

The apostle John also wrote in his gospel account about the rejection of Christ: “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him” (John 1:11). Isaiah prophesied 700 years beforehand that Jesus would be rejected. The New Testament writers later documented this reality.

Jesus knew before He left heaven that He was going to be a “man of sorrows.” That He was “acquainted with grief” literally means that He “knew suffering.” What an amazing God we serve! He did all of this for our salvation! He may have been despised in His sacrifice, but we will glorify Him and praise Him in His victory!
