Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city (Revelation 22:14).
This is the last of seven great beatitudes in the book of Revelation (1:3; 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7; 22:14).
Notice three truths about Revelation 22:14. (1) See the Pronouncement. It can be seen in the word “blessed.” The term has to do with the joy and peace which come from having the approval of God Himself. (2) See the Recipients. The “blessed” are those who “wash their robes” (ESV, NASB) or “do His commandments” (KJV, NKJV). (3) See the Results. Those who trust and obey “have the right to the tree of life” and “may enter through the gates of the city.” Oh, how awful to contemplate being “cursed,” “unwashed,” “disobedient” and “outside” of heaven! Eternal life and the beauty of an eternal home in the presence of Jesus Himself await those who overcome!
