The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace (Numbers 6:24-26).
This passage contains three great features. (1) There is a Great Giver. Life’s greatest gifts come only from God (James 1:17). We dare not “forget all His benefits” (Psalm 103:2). (2) There are Great Gifts. One such gift is “blessing.” The idea here is that of a vast storehouse of priceless gifts and treasures. Our God is unfailingly generous in blessing those who love Him. Another gift is God’s “keeping.” He cares, and He is our omnipotent defender. (3) There are Great Experiences. We see something of His glory, “make His face shine upon you.” We experience His grace, “and be gracious.” Yet again, we see the assurance of His presence, “lift up His countenance upon you.” Finally, we experience His peace, “and give you peace.” Peace has been defined as, “the possession of adequate resources.” Because of Christ, this is even more true (cf. John 14:27; Ephesians 2:14-18). Peace – Perfect Peace!
