The Gift of God

When spoken to concerning his need for salvation in Christ, one man asked, “Salvation from what?” The answer to that question is salvation from sin and from the spiritual death that is the consequence thereof. The sinner cannot deliver himself from either sin or its penalty without a Deliverer. A man cannot save his own soul without a Savior, and Jesus Christ presents Himself to us as both Deliverer and Savior. Paul told the Church at Ephesus that they were saved by grace through faith. Grace is Divine favor that cannot be earned any more than salvation itself. Faith is the ideal response of a man to the Word of God and is manifested by obedience to that Word. While works of obedience demonstrate the faith through which comes saving grace, those works cannot earn a thing. Salvation remains the gift of God.
