And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby (Ephesians 2:16).

Man is selfish. His selfishness often drives others from him, even to the point that others become his enemies. In the first century, the Jews and Gentiles were estranged. God’s desire was to unite these two warring
cultures.

How could this be done? The two groups did not talk to each other. God united them in the church purchased by the blood Christ shed on the cross. Moses’ law that stood between them was torn down. When they obeyed the gospel, their sins were forgiven, and the Lord added them to the church (Acts 2:47). In that body they were united in Christ. It is in this body, the precious body of Jesus Christ (His church) that God continues to unite all men today.
