Greater Than Himself

At the Twelfth of Matthew’s Gospel, the Savior taught us that it is out of the abundance of a man’s heart that he speaks. Evil things proceed from those of evil heart, but good things proceed from those of a good and pure heart. The same is true of spiritual wisdom. One could hardly expect to be edified by a fool speaking from the abundance of his heart. For this cause, David observed at Psalm One that a man is blessed who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. Wise people who will be wiser still seek out sources of such wisdom. Christ warned His audience at Luke Eleven not to miss the opportunity before them to do that very thing. The Queen of the South, the Savior said, came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. In Person before them stood One infinitely greater than Solomon. More than receiving credit for what he believes he already knows, the wiser man enjoys the pleasure of receiving wisdom from a Source greater than himself.
