Light of the World
At the Twenty-First of Exodus, God ordained that if a man had been warned that his ox was dangerous and the animal killed someone as a result of the owner’s failure to restrain him, both the ox and its owner would be put to death. The Lord obviously considered tragedy resulting from neglect to be a capitol crime. Similarly, the Scriptures warn humanity of the spiritually lethal consequences of sin, and man’s neglect to heed those warnings will result in spiritual death. Further, a significant responsibility is placed upon the Church to be the bearer of the Gospel message to the world. Not only will lost ones perish for failure to hear the warnings of that message, but the Lord’s own will be cast away should they fail as the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
