Tried nor Stretched

We have all been tempted before, and we all know it. How, though, would you define the experience? In Greek, “tempt” may mean “to try,” while in Latin the same word may mean “to stretch.” When tempted, our sense of conviction is being tried, and the faithfulness of our resolve is being stretched in Satan’s hope of discovering its limit. One of the things the Savior was tempted of the devil to do at the Fourth of Matthew was to worship the devil. Interestingly, “worship” may define in Greek as “to kiss or show love toward one,” while in Latin it may mean “to serve.” More interestingly, the first and great commandment is to love God with all the heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to serve only Him. To do otherwise, the faithful can be neither tried nor stretched.
