The Image of the Son

When the nation of Israel at First Samuel Eight petitioned for a king, one of the reasons they gave for this was to be like all the nations. However, the path to being like God does not involve being like other people. When the Pharisees complained at Matthew Fifteen that the Lord’s disciples did not follow the tradition of the elders, Jesus told them their traditions violated the commandments of God. Though many chief rulers of John Twelve believed on Jesus, they would not confess their faith in Him because they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. Whether secularly or spiritually, there is no excellence in sameness, and spiritual excellence is possible only by conforming to the image of the Son.
