Ravening Wolves

Because a prophet is someone who speaks for another, it is necessary to know precisely for whom he speaks. In His Sermon on the Mount, the Lord cautioned us concerning the false prophets. Describing them as wolves in sheep’s clothing, their true identity does not become clear until the result of their work and its character are known. Were they godly prophets, the fruit of their labor would be just as godly. The false prophet is often himself the product of one or more other false prophets and is an example of what the Savior described as the evil fruit of a corrupt tree. Further, he may proceed with the perpetuation of his cause without the slightest realization of his error, though Paul did warn us of those who spoke lies in hypocrisy. The Word of God is Truth, and the Scriptures alone furnish a man to every good work. It is within the Word that good trees and their fruit are defined. It is, therefore, also within the Word that we know what is meant by a corrupt tree, evil fruit, and ravening wolves.
