Awake and Alert
At the Eighth of Matthew’s Gospel, the Savior slept as a ship with Him and His disciples was covered with the waves of a great tempest. Not surprisingly, the terrified disciples awakened Him to ask Him to save them from perishing. If we wish the Lord to be awake and alert to our needs, we should also consider the importance of us all being awake and alert to the purposes unto which He calls us. At the Thirteenth of Romans, Paul wrote that it is high time to awaken out of sleep, for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. By this, we both understand that eternity is nearer to us than it has ever been, and certainly nearer than when we may have first been convicted by the Gospel. To these truths we must be awake and alert.
