Be Free Indeed
The Savior taught at the Eighth of John that the truth would make us free. However, the Lord first stated the necessity of knowing what the truth is. His audience at the time seemed unaware of the truth concerning themselves as the servants of sin, and the Lord taught them parabolically that their eternal future in that condition was rather bleak. At the Sixth of Romans, Paul observed that sinners are the servants of sin, but the obedient to the Lord are the servants of righteousness. The latter obtained that status by obeying from the heart the form of doctrine delivered unto them. That form of doctrine is the truth the Savior said one must know. No wonder, then, that if the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.
