Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).
“What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him” (Psalm 8:4)? Isaiah 7:14 summed up the answer to the Psalmist’s question. The sign (i.e. God cares for His creation) is from Almighty God Himself and given of His own free will. Man needs a savior (Romans 3:23; 6:23; Ecclesiastes 7:20; Galatians 3:22). Many great leaders have helped blaze a trail in history, but no mere mortal can be the “…Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). The virgin Mary having a child without “knowing” a man, stands as the sign from God, and calling His name Emmanuel (i.e. God with us, Matthew 1:23) emphasized what it means. This sign stands to remind us that we are never alone (Matthew 28:20).
