Jesus prayed that those who believed on Him would be one (John 17:20-21). His prayer was answered by the early church and continues in faithful followers today.

Genuine unity provides a potential for great work to be accomplished. These early Christians provided generously for the needs of their brethren. Their concern was not simply verbal but real in action (cf. James 2:15-16; 1 John 3:18). They understood the principle that everything ultimately belongs to God and that they should share what God had put under their care (1Timothy 6:18).

As the beautiful old hymn says, “How sweet, how heavenly is the sight, when those that love the Lord in one another’s peace delight, and so fulfill His Word!”
