No Useful Purpose

Through Isaiah, God said His thoughts and ways are not our own. The portion of God’s ways that He chooses to share with us are revealed in His Holy Word. The ways of man are seen in his traditions, and the Savior pointed out at the Fifteenth of Matthew that man’s traditions make the commandments of God of no effect. It was of this that Isaiah prophesied, and the Lord told His audience that it was they of whom the prophet wrote. Though they sought to honor and draw nigh unto the Lord, their heart was far from Jehovah because they embraced doctrines and traditions of human, not Divine, origin. For this, the Savior declared, their worship is vain, or serves no useful purpose.
