The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me (2 Samuel 22:21).
The Lord rewards those who walk in His ways. David had been delivered from the “hand of all his enemies and the hand of Saul” (2 Samuel 22:1). The Lord was David’s “Rock,” “Fortress,” “Deliverer,” “Shield,” “the horn” of his “salvation,” his “high tower,” “refuge” and “Savior.” David exclaimed, “I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies” (cf. 2 Samuel 22:2-4).
We likewise have an enemy who is seeking our soul (1 Peter 5:8). Yet God also is our refuge in Whom we trust. Life’s battles are won by walking in the path God has set before us. There is a reward for the faithful (cf. 2 Timothy 4:8, Psalm 19:11).
