The Lord Had Commanded Them
At the Fourth of Exodus, God instructed Moses to perform before Pharaoh all the wonders the Lord had enabled him to do. In the process of securing the release of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage, Moses was to leave nothing undone. The Fourth of Deuteronomy took the same approach with the Mosaic Law. In order that they might live and inherit the land of promise, Israel was neither to add nor subtract anything from the statutes and judgments of God. Otherwise, they would not be regarded as keeping the Lord’s commandments at all. Those who would be followers of Christ now know this same ancient principle to be true. For this cause, the Savior commissioned the apostles to teach their audiences all things whatsoever the Lord had commanded them.
