God and Mammon
At the Fourth of Exodus, God instructed Moses to require of Pharaoh to give leave to the Israelites so that they could serve God. The Egyptians considered sacred the animals that the Israelites would sacrifice in that service. Therefore, it was necessary that Israel depart Egypt to render the service God would require. The modern world may think little or no more of the spiritual service of Christians to their Lord than the Egyptians thought of the Israelite’s service to Jehovah. For this reason and others, it is as necessary for the people of God today to spiritually disconnect from the carnal world as it was for the Israelites to depart Egypt. As the Savior taught, “Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
