Strength and Shield

At the Sixth of Ephesians, Paul admonished the Church to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. With this, Paul showed our own strength to be inadequate to face the wiles of Satan and, while commending to us the power of God, admonished us also to take up six items of proverbial armor, all of which were to be wielded with prayer. Paul said the most important of these is the shield of faith. While some shields used by ancient warriors were relatively small, others were quite large and able to protect virtually the entire body. Having the shield in possession was not enough on the field of battle; one must also have the strength to wield it. As a warrior himself, this may be why David wrote at Psalm Twenty-Eight that the Lord was his strength and shield.
