Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes. (Song Of Solomon 2:15).
Someone has said, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” At certain times and in certain areas of life, this might be good advice. In the area of personal relationships, however, this mantra can lead to trouble. Habits and even isolated acts that might be perceived as “little,” often prove to be either deadly or “life-saving” to a relationship.
We need to be careful not to “take for granted” those who are near and dear to us. It is selfish to permit ourselves that “little” vice, when it is grating or even hurtful to another. It is thoughtless not to take the time to express our love and gratitude to those who mean so much in our lives. Attention to detail – attention to the little things – often makes our relationships stronger.
