Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).
We all live two lives, an inward life and an outward life. Peter urged women “Do not let your adornment be merely outward… rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit…” (1 Peter 3:3, NKJV). We’re often better at maintaining the outward man, the one people easily see.
Today I’m determined to find one thing I’m not doing well inside my heart, and address it. What’s there? Hatred? Greed? Spite? Selfishness? Apathy? I’ll take a passage of Scripture relating to my weakness and press it into my heart. I’ll renew my mind with words of the Ancient Book (Romans 12:2), and I’ll pray the prayer David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God…”
