Through the Gospel
The Second of James concludes with the observation that death is the separation of the body and the spirit. We also understand the dead to be separated from us who remain upon the earth. The Third of Colossians, however, teaches us that Christ is our life. Spiritual death, then, is separation from the Lord, and, at the Fifty-Ninth of Isaiah, the prophet declares that it is sin that separates man from God. This is that spiritual death that Paul the apostle said at Romans Six is the wage of sin. However, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. As Paul explained it at Second Timothy one, “Jesus Christ hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.”
