Daily Lift – March 25th, 2018

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein (Jeremiah 6:16).

This is a bittersweet passage – sweet because
it provided guidance and goodness; bitter
because God’s people refused both. By standing,
seeing, asking and walking, they could find the
good way and obtain rest for their weary souls.
But, they flatly refused (Jeremiah 18:5). How sad!

In the days prior to maps and GPS systems, one
would need to inquire of those who knew the
territory and the route he should take. Likewise,
one who seeks God’s Way must inquire of those
who know it. It is not to be found through the
ways and means of men (Matthew 15:9). Rather,
it is obtained through finding and walking in
“the old paths” (Psalm 119:105) and “the good
way” (Matthew 11:28-29). Then, one must
also walk therein (James 4:17).
