For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it (Exodus 20:11).
Almighty God powerfully spoke the world into existence in six days (Genesis 1:1-31; Psalm 33:6-9). He could have created it instantly (Genesis 18:14; Luke 1:37), but we needed a time frame in which to live, so He created the world, and our calendar week.
Creating the world in six days, and creating the Sabbath Day, was but a means toward fulfilling His eternal plan to create His eternal kingdom on the Day of Pentecost (Revelation 13:8; Ephesians 3:9-11; Acts 2; Galatians 3:24-29).
We are no longer under the Sabbath Day (Colossians 2:14-16), but Jesus spoke of another rest that awaits us if we labour to enter into it (Hebrews 4:9-11)!
