No Victimless Crimes

At times, people have been known to minimize the severity of their transgressions by referring to them as “victimless crimes.” The sin of King David was hardly victimless. Having taken another man’s wife, Bathsheba, David made an adulterer out of himself and an adulteress out of her. Uriah the Hittite, Bathsheba’s husband, was noted as one of David’s mighty men, and the King arranged Uriah’s death in battle in an attempt to cover his affair. The child born as a result of that immoral union died, and Nathan the prophet informed David that the sword would never depart from his house and that evil would be against him as a result of his sin. Knowledge of the King’s transgression gave great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme. It appears the sin David sought to cover was hardly covered at all. There are no victimless crimes.
