“Freedom,” “independence,” “liberty”: all words which thrill the soul that knows or has known captivity.
For the captivity of sin, this emancipation has been provided by Jesus and revealed through the Word of Truth (John 17:17). David understood how one could enjoy the liberty offered by God; he affirmed, “I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts” (Psalm 119:45). If we will seek the Lord’s precepts – to do them, then we, too, will walk at liberty, for “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1:25).
