No Respecter of Persons

Persons with convictions in common are often identified by group names, particularly if those convictions are distinct from those of one or more other large groups. This is true in social and political circles, as well as in matters of religion. Such was the case with the Pharisees and Sadducees of the first century. A primary difference between them was belief in the resurrection among the Pharisees, while the Sadducees rejected that doctrine. Though other differences separated the two, there is something they all had in common: at the Third of Matthew, John the Baptist told both groups that they must bring forth fruits meet for repentance. Every tree, he said, regardless of its origin, if it brought not forth good fruit, would be hewn down and cast into the fire. Whether one be Pharisee, Sadducee, or any other, God is no respecter of persons.
