Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD: and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance (Psalm 33:12).

Moses told Israel they were special, not because they were mighty, but because they were chosen (Dueteronomy 7:6-7). While any nation that chooses to do the will of God will be blessed, God’s richest spiritual and eternal blessings are reserved for His chosen people, the church.

Peter wrote, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). We are chosen in Christ (Ephesians 1:4). We are chosen through the gospel (2 Thessalonians 2:14). We respond to His choosing by our obedience, and in return we are blessed to be His people and obtain His mercy and grace (1 Peter 2:10).
