The Greater Condemnation

Click here for the audio version

Shortly after Jehovah delivered Israel from Egyptian bondage, He established Aaron and his sons as priests. Aaron, with his sons Nadab and Abihu, ascended Sinai with Moses when the latter was to receive the law and commandments on tables of stone. Though they could not accompany Moses when he came nigh unto the Lord, the experience should have given them extraordinary respect for Divine statutes. Yet, it would be only shortly afterward that Nadab and Abihu offered strange fire before the Lord which he commanded them not. As a consequence, there went out fire from the Lord which devoured them, and they died before the Lord. Moses then pointed out to Aaron that this is what the Lord meant when He said He would be sanctified and glorified in them that come nigh unto Him. The event may also exemplify the words of the Third of James, “Be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.”
