Do Not Prevail Against It
Some have been mourned in death because they never accomplished something they aspired to do. In the case of Jesus Christ, death not only failed to prevent His stated purpose of establishing the Church, but, rather, His death facilitated it. About one thousand years before Christ, David prophesied that the soul of Christ would not remain among those of the dead in the Hadean realm. At the Second of Acts, the apostle Peter declared that prophecy fulfilled in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The Church had its beginnings that day, and thus did the Savior keep the promise He made at the Sixteenth of Matthew’s Gospel. He did indeed build His Church upon the Rock of Himself, and the gates of Hades did not and do not prevail against it.
