Redemption for Us
There was within the ancient tabernacle a compartment known as “The Holy of Holies.” Within this compartment rested the Ark of the Covenant, the lid of which was adorned with a pair of cherubim and was referred to as “The Mercy Seat.” The Holy of Holies was separated from the rest of the Tabernacle’s interior by a veil. Only the High Priest was permitted to enter here, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement. All Israel was otherwise separated from the Mercy Seat. At the moment of Christ’s death on the cross, the veil in the Temple was rent in twain from top to bottom. This signified that, by the ultimate sacrifice of the Savior, humanity was given access to saving grace and mercy. The Ninth of Hebrews tells us that Christ by His own blood entered once into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
