Opportunity Presented Itself

The Word has been communicated in a number of ways over the centuries, and no better example exists of them that did so than that of the Savior Himself. At the Fourth of Matthew, Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” At the Fifth of Matthew, it is written that the Lord taught the multitudes. Whether regarded as preaching or teaching, the Scriptures enlighten us about how the Truth must be declared. The Seventh of Matthew closes by telling us that the Savior’s audience was astonished at His doctrine and the authority with which He spoke it. Because the time would come when audiences would desire those who taught fables, Paul exhorted Timothy to preach the Word. Paul also informed Timothy that those who would serve as bishops in the Church must be apt to teach, indicating not only the ability to do so, but also a likelihood of doing so at any time the opportunity presented itself.
