With Me in Paradise

The word “Paradise” has been variously applied over the ages. Almost invariably, “paradise” is used to describe a place or condition of beauty, with happiness and contentment. According to ancient history, the Persians referred to their royal gardens as paradise, while the Garden of Eden, home of Adam and Eve, has also been so known. More importantly, Paradise is recognized as the immediate destination of those who die in Christ, Gehenna being its opposite. Both are depicted at the Sixteenth of Luke’s Gospel in the Savior’s account of the rich man and Lazarus. The faithful look fondly forward to their entrance into Paradise, for the Second of Revelation tells us that the tree of life is in its midst. Forgiven sinners have there met the Lord Himself, for the Savior promised a penitent malefactor at the Twenty-Third of Luke, “Today thou shalt be with Me in Paradise.”
