Renewed Opportunities
The redemptive message of the Gospel may be described as one of second chances and renewed opportunity. For example, at the Twenty Sixth of Matthew’s Gospel, Peter declared that he would die before he would ever deny the Savior. Yet, before the night was over, Peter had three times denied knowing the Lord at all. At the Twenty-First of John’s Gospel, however, it is no accident that Jesus three times asked Peter if he loved his Lord. For each regrettable denial of Christ, Peter was given a chance to declare his devotion to the Lord, verbalize his love for his Savior, and enjoy a renewed relationship with the Redeemer in Whom he had previously been offended. To be certain, in the Lord there are found second chances and renewed opportunities.
